About Us
Our company has relocated to a small studio at 115 Market St. in Warren RI. The studio sits behind a residential home. We are now operating the business by appointment. Please call 401- or 401- to schedule today. This is a milestone year for East Bay Picture Frame. Owner, Gary Wilson started selling framed prints and posters to his Rhode Island College professors and fellow students in 1986. In 1989 he opened the Sakonnet Art Center in South Tiverton, Rhode Island. Studying under Odile Gorse, a Manhattan art broker, he exhibited original works of art from some of the premier contemporary artists coming from Europe. The Sakonnet Art Center had a framing facility, art supply store and studio space where many of the local artists would paint and teach art classes throughout the year. In 1993 he relocated the facility to his hometown of Warren, Rhode Island. Located on the upper Narragansett Bay, this seaside communities history is steeped in sailing and boat building. Its working waterfront hosted the whaling industry until its near extinction in the early 1800’ Then and now, beautiful sailboats are carried across the bay by ocean breezes off Block Island Sound. And yes, we do spend much of the summer sailing, water skiing and diving for quahogs and oysters. InArt Gallery began by brokering marine paintings and prints. Having cultivated an eclectic community of fine art collectors, decorators and gallery goers, the art now ranges from traditional landscapes and impressionist floral’s to over sized contemporary abstracts, travel and marine photography. The art and framing industry has changed as a result of major department stores and the internet. Preframed art can be at your door within three day when ordering on line. Major "box" stores are buying framed art and selling it to the masses. In 1999 there were over six thousand frame/gallery shops in New England. In 2006, three thousand and now in 2010, there are less than half. Italian moldings that are hand finished, conservation glass and framing materials, and most importantly, skilled frame crafters working on the entire project, right in our own facility. Our design showroom has over a thousand frame samples to choose from. Our customers always know when they're looking at art that we’ve framed. When you bring in your art to be framed, we create a marriage between the art and the environment it will hang in.
